Smock fashion culture in pre-colonial, colonial, postcolonial and modern day Ghana will forever remain indelible for its outstanding historical sweep and aesthetical clout in Ghanaian new identity-making. For nothing at all, the word ‘smock’ throws up lasting memories of the eve of Ghana’s independence at the Old Polo Grounds in Accra where Nkrumah, the hero, shed tears of joy in proclaiming the country’s independence.
